KENT STATE UNIVERSITY SELECTS NEW DEAN FOR COLLEGE OF NURSING
Following a national search, Kent State University has selected Versie Johnson–Mallard, Ph.D., for the position of dean of the College of Nursing.
Since 2018, Johnson–Mallard has been the associate dean at the University of Florida, College of Nursing. There she provided transformational leadership in academic support of areas of curriculum performance appraisals related to student success, budget and finance, facilities planning and management.

Faculty Member Creates Simulation Escape Room for Undergraduate Students
Janet Reed, MSN, RN, CMSRN, Associate Lecturer at Kent State University Stark, has always enjoyed incorporating new creative ideas in her classroom. After observing her students struggle with heightened anxiety during traditional simulations over the years, she desired a way to make their experience more fun and less stressful. In February 2020, she introduced her students to the nursing simulation escape room.
Nursing Student Allie Rodriguez Reflects on Volunteer Experiences at Vaccine Clinics
Allie Rodriguez was a senior nursing student in her community rotation at Kent State when the Kent State Field House was designated as a mass COVID-19 vaccination site clinic for Portage County and surrounding areas. She and her classmates were among the first nursing students offered the opportunity to volunteer.
Nursing Student Chelsea Palmer Earns Scholar of the Year Award
Kent State University at Trumbull’s Chelsea Palmer, a new graduate of the College of Nursing, was recently named one of two “Scholars of the Year” by the Eastern Ohio Area Health Education Center (AHEC). The award recognizes students who are exceptional in their approach, level of engagement and connecting theory with practice while in the AHEC’s Scholars Program.
