Summer Undergraduate Research Experience
For almost six years I have had the privilege of working with talented faculty, staff and students who have dedicated their time and energy to enhancing and growing our culture of research and innovation at Kent State University. I am honored to have been part of this effort and am proud to call myself a Golden Flash.
While I have announced that I will be retiring at the end of May 2021, this effort and these people will never be far from my thoughts. I am most proud of the impact we have had on the lives of students by forming the Office of Student Research and providing multiple opportunities for students to get personally involved with research.
There are few experiences for students that rival hands-on research with faculty investigators, exploring important questions and generating new knowledge. I believe all students should have the chance to participate in this type of experience, challenging their minds and building skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives. That is why I have enthusiastically supported our Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE).
Philanthropic support for Kent State’s SURE program and all our research and creative activity programming is critical in order to ensure that students can continue engaging in this life-changing experience. As I reflect on my time at Kent State, I am inspired by the stories of students who have discovered their passion in research, and I am grateful I had the chance to help with their progress down this path.
Today, I invite you to support our SURE program and share in my pride for what the program has become and what it will grow into with your support.
Thank you for all the ways you have supported us in building Kent State’s thriving culture of research and innovation.
