Kent State selected a national leader as the new Henderson Endowed Chair and Dean of the College of Nursing. Dean Versie Johnson-Mallard, Ph.D., RN, FAANP, FAAN is a researcher, academician, clinician and executive leader in nursing and higher education. She most recently served as Associate Dean at the College of Nursing in the Health Science Center at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. As the largest public, multi-campus system in Northeast Ohio serving nine communities, Kent State University and the College of Nursing are primed for growth in academic and research endeavors. “I am grateful and excited to join Kent State University and the College of Nursing,” said Dean Johnson-Mallard.
iSchool and College of Nursing Secure $100,000 Grant to Research Libraries and Childhood Development
The funds will support the first stages of Project SHIELD (Supporting Healthy Infant Early Learning and Development). The team has designed the project to explore how library and healthcare practitioner partnerships can support families with young children, 0-24 months, from underserved communities with brain development, learning and health for their young children.

Honoring the Legacy of Cheryl Swinehart Dariushnia - Nurse, Counselor, Loving Mother
Cheryl Swinehart Dariushnia graduated from the Kent State School of Nursing (as it was referred to at the time) in 1977. As was the case for many students of her generation, Cheryl’s journey to becoming a nurse was not always easy. With limited scholarships available, she was forced to work more than 30 hours per week while attending Kent State. However, Cheryl persevered and pushed forward.
Giving Tuesday 2021: Nurses Helping Future Nurses
Giving Tuesday provides a great opportunity for the College of Nursing community to help bolster the Kent State University College of Nursing Emergency Fund. This fund provides immediate and flexible support for students in need and allows our future nurses to focus more on the classroom and less on their finances.
