Kent State’s College of Nursing Redesignated a Center of Excellence
For the third consecutive term, the National League for Nursing has designated Kent State University College of Nursing as a Center of Excellence in the category of Advancing the Science of Nursing Education.
Kent State’s College of Nursing Awarded $225,000 Grant from Peg’s Foundation
Kent State University’s College of Nursing was recently awarded a three-year $225,000 grant from Peg’s Foundation, a private grantmaking foundation which supports mental health programs in Northeast Ohio. These funds will support the college’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs, as well as improve recruitment and increase the number of advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) working in Northeast Ohio.

Faculty Fellowships: Loretta Aller and Taryn Burhanna Win Competitive Awards
Kent nursing faculty members Dr. Loretta Aller and Taryn Burhanna recently garnered prestigious fellowship awards. Aller was named a Research Fellow by the International Nursing Association for Clinical and Simulation Learning (INACSL), and Burhanna was selected as a SOURCE Service-Learning Academy Faculty Fellow by the Johns Hopkins University Schools of Public Health, Nursing and Medicine.

Sandra Janashak Cadena Selected to be Inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing
Kent Nursing alumna, Sandra Janashak Cadena, BSN ’76, has been selected to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (Academy). Dr. Cadena is a Professor at the Universidad de Bosque, Colombia, South America, and an international consultant in community mental health.
Health Policy Experts Release New Edition of Innovative Nursing Textbook
Two College of Nursing graduates Rebecca M. Patton, BSN ’80, Ph.D. and Ruth Ludwick, MSN ’81, Ph.D. ’93, worked as part of the editing cohort to release the nursing textbook “Nurses Making Policy, Third Edition: From Bedside to Boardroom.”
