Flashes Win Season Opener Over NIU and SE Missouri

The Kent State gymnastics team won its first meet of the season on Sunday, defeating Northern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State at home. The Golden Flashes finished with a final score of 195.300, topping the Huskies and RedHawks who finished at 194.150 and 191.500 respectively.

Kent State Men’s Basketball Hosts Theme Game Next Week

Kent State men’s basketball will host a home game next week with a purpose bigger than basketball. The team will take on Western Michigan in the Coaches vs. Cancer game on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Flashes Knock off Mocks to Close Virginia Duals, Next Two Matches at Home
 
The Golden Flashes picked up a 18-13 win over UT-Chattanooga to close out the Virginia Duals on Saturday. Kent State closed the dual in perfect form, winning each of the final four matches. The Flashes also wrestled extra matches versus Virginia following the dual with the Mocs.

The victory gives the Flashes some momentum as they re-enter Mid-American Conference play on Sunday, when Kent State hosts the Buffalo Bulls at the MAC Center starting at 2 p.m.

Track and Field
 
Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Begin Indoor Season with Akron Dual on Friday
 
The Kent State track and field program will open the 2022 indoor season with the annual Akron Dual Friday night at the Kent State Field House. Field events will start at 5 p.m. and action on the track is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. The meet is open to the public and admission is $10 for all spectators ages 5 and up.

This will be the first of four home meets for the Flashes this season, including the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 25-26.

Travis Shaw Honored for Varsity “K” Hall of Fame Induction During Men’s Basketball Game vs. Akron
 
Travis Shaw returned to Kent State Friday night after missing the Varsity “K” Induction for the MLB postseason with the Boston Red Sox. Shaw was a two-time All-MAC infielder and was named All-Region in 2011. Learn more about his career at Kent State.

Varsity “K” Hall of Famer Gary Pinkel ‘75 to be Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame
 
Varsity “K” Hall of Famer and Kent State football great Gary Pinkel is being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Pinkel is a 1997 inductee into the Varsity “K” Hall of Fame and a 1975 graduate of Kent State University.
