Toney-Cox Named Kent State’s First McLendon Fellow

Calvin Toney-Cox was named the first “future leader” at Kent State thanks to the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Rob Senderoff is an ambassador for the initiative and played a pivotal role alongside Director of Athletics Randale Richmond and university President Todd Diacon in getting Toney-Cox, an Akron native, placed at Kent State.

Flashes Top MAC, Fourth Nationally in Service Hours

Kent State student-athletes topped the Mid-American Conference and ranked fourth nationally in the fall semester Helper Helper community service report.

The Golden Flashes totaled 3,763 service hours with a $108,429 economic impact during the 2021 fall semester. The student-athletes were able to use the relationships they had in the community to find creative ways to give back to the area.

Women's Basketball Play for Kay Pink Game this Saturday
 
Women’s Basketball Annual Pink Game Set for Saturday
 
The Golden Flashes, in conjunction with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, are set for their annual Play4Kay Pink Game this Saturday when they take on Ball State at 1 p.m.

The team will be wearing their custom pink jerseys and fans are encouraged to wear pink as well. Fans will also have the opportunity to make a sign to show who you are fighting for in the battle against breast cancer.

Kent State to Host Jud Logan Memorial Tune Up
 
The Kent State track and field programs will recognize Kent State Varsity “K” Hall of Famer Jud Logan, who passed away last month, by naming the annual Tune Up home meet in his honor. The inaugural Jud Logan Memorial Tune Up is set for Saturday, Feb. 19 inside the Kent State Fieldhouse.

Lacrosse Opens 2022 Season Play
 
Women’s lacrosse open their regular season this Saturday when they host the Butler Bulldogs at Dix Stadium at 1 p.m. EST. Fans will get a Kent State scarf as part of the opening day festivities. Saturday is the first of eight opportunities to see the Flashes compete at home this season.

Softball Opens 2022 Season Play
 
The softball team will travel to Fort Myers, Fla. this weekend for a slew of games beginning Friday, Feb. 11. They will face Long Island University at 10 a.m. EST and no. 14 Clemson at 2:30 p.m. EST at the Florida Gulf Coast University Kickoff Classic.

Flashes Continue to Add to Signing Class
 
Kent State football, under the direction of Head Coach Sean Lewis, continue to add to their 2022 signing class with eight new signees during the February signing period.

With the February class, the Flashes have now signed 26 players to the 2022 class.

The Golden Flashes hit the links this week as the women’s golf team got their spring season started at the UCF Challenge, hosted by Central Florida.

The men’s squad tees off its season opener with a two-day slate starting on Valentine’s Day at South Alabama.

Men’s Basketball Wins Fifth Straight in MAC; Akron Up Next on Friday
 
The Golden Flashes have won five MAC games in a row for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Kent State has now won at least four straight home games in every single season since 1996-97.

Next up, the Flashes travel to “the school down the road” on Friday, Feb. 11, to take on Akron in another edition of the Wagon Wheel rivalry at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
