Flashes Hire Haley Eckerman as New Volleyball Coach
Haley Eckerman, a four-time All-American at Texas and 2012 National Champion has been named the ninth head coach in Kent State Volleyball history. Eckerman comes to Kent State after serving as an assistant at Texas Christian (TCU) last year.
Flashes Seeded Second in Upcoming MAC Tournament
The Golden Flashes are riding a 12-game winning streak and earned the second seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. Kent State will take on seventh-seeded Miami in the opening round, with an approximate 4 p.m. EST start time.
You can meet up with Golden Flash fans and alumni before the game at Flannery’s Pub to enjoy complimentary appetizers and drink specials, beginning at 2 p.m. on March 10. The pub is located at 323 Prospect Ave. Cleveland, OH 44115. Wear your blue and gold!

Komara Crowned Champ at 149 Pounds, McCracken Joins Him at Nationals
Kody Komara pinned Bobcat Marcus Robinson in the 149-pound title match, highlighting a strong finish to the MAC Championships on Saturday at Ohio University.
Komara, who earned the fall and the conference crown, will be accompanied by Colin McCracken at the NCAA tournament in Detroit. McCracken finished second at 184 pounds. Jake Ferri earned a third-place finish at 125 pounds.
Kent State to Host Pro Day Next Monday
The Kent State Football program will host their annual pro day on March 14 inside the Kent State Fieldhouse. Eight Golden Flashes will take part in the event, which is closed to the public. Quarterback Dustin Crum, wide receivers Nykeim Johnson and Keshunn Abram, tight end Aaron Hackett, defensive backs Elvis Hines and KJ Sherald, defensive lineman Jabbar Price and linebacker Manny Lawrence-Burke are all scheduled to participate.
The pro day is a part of the opening week of spring football, which starts on March 9. The Flashes will host the annual spring game on Saturday, April 16.
Flashes Honor Seniors, Post Two Highest Scores Over the Weekend
The Kent State Gymnastics team topped 196 points twice this weekend, doing so in the All-Ohio meet and the third Kent State tri-meet. The Flashes posted a 196.375 at the All-Ohio meet hosted by Ohio State and a 196.550 in the Kent State tri-meet. The Flashes topped Bowling Green on Friday and Eastern Michigan on Sunday, but narrowly fell to Ohio State both times. Kent State heads to Western Michigan next weekend for the regular season finale. The MAC Championships are at Eastern Michigan in two weeks.
Kent State Sweeps Austin Peay, Set for Home Opener
Collin Mathews hit .700 over the weekend and drove in eight runs, leading the Golden Flashes to a road sweep of Austin Peay. Mathews was named MAC Player of the Week for his efforts. Aidan Longwell hit .500 over the weekend and earned the save in Friday night’s series opener. In the finale, the Flashes pounded out 22 hits in a sweep-clinching 16-9 win.

Winters Named Guest of Honor for 10th Annual Athletics Scholarship Auction
The Golden Flashes Club has announced that Varsity “K” Hall of Famer Brian Winters, ’13, will be the host and guest of honor for the 10th Annual Athletics Scholarship Auction on Friday, April 22. Tickets and registration are on sale now!
