Flashes Announce Softball and Gymnastics Facility Upgrades

The Kent State Athletic Department, in conjunction with the Kent State University Capital Fund, has approved renovations to the Kent State softball facility and the gymnastics practice facility, as announced by Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond.

Corey Conners, '14, Finishes Third at Match-Play Championships

Varsity “K” Class of 2021 member Corey Conners defeated Dustin Johnson 3 and 1 to capture third place at the Dell-Technologies Match Play Championships. The annual tournament pits the top 64 golfers in a head-to-head, bracket-style format and saw Conners, who was seeded 36th, quickly advance during the four day tournament.

Four Gymnasts to Compete in Auburn Regional

The Kent State Gymnastics team will send four individuals to the NCAA Regionals this year, which are set to take place March 30 through April 2 at Auburn University in Alabama. The four gymnasts representing the Golden Flashes at Regionals are junior Rachel DeCavitch, junior Karlie Franz, freshman Alyssa Guns and sophomore Sarah Haxton. Haxton will compete on the uneven bars, Guns and Franz on floor and DeCavitch on all-around.

Wickey Named Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year

 

Kent State's Jake Wickey has been named Great Lakes Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year for the second indoor season in a row, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday.

Wickey’s well-deserved award highlighted a big week for the Golden Flashes’ track and field programs, which were back in action for the outdoor season over the weekend. To catch up on all things track and field, visit the page below.

Baseball to Host Nationally Ranked UCONN This Weekend

 

The Golden Flashes will play eight of their next nine games at Schoonover Stadium, starting with a weekend series facing the UCONN Huskies. The Huskies come into the series ranked 25th in the nation. Get your tickets at the link below for what promises to be a fun and exciting series.

Kent State Knocks Off Detroit Mercy, 16-11

 

Kenzie Sklar and Jackie Wolford each had four goals as part of a balanced offensive attack, and Kent State led by as many as 10 in a 16-11 victory over Detroit Mercy. This is the second straight victory for the Flashes who will continue their homestand this Saturday against the rival Zips. The Wagon Wheel showdown is set for 1 p.m. at Dix Stadium.

Carry Named Finalist for Lou Henson Award

 

Sincere Carry was named a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, collegeinsider.com announced on Monday.

The Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.
