Kent State College of Nursing Announces Second Jonas Scholar Award Recipient
Two-time alumna and current DNP student Nicole K. Lewis, MSN ’20, APRN, PMHNP-BC, was selected by Jonas Philanthropies, a leading national philanthropic supporter of graduate nursing education, as a 2020–22 Jonas Scholar Award Recipient. Lewis is the second Kent State University College of Nursing graduate student to receive this honor. A $15,000 grant from Jonas Philanthropies, along with $15,000 matched by the college, have funded Lewis’ scholarship.
Summer Project Exposes Nursing Undergrad to Advanced Levels of Research
Wayne Nieh is a third-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student at Kent State University’s Geauga Campus. This past summer, he was a member of Kent State’s 2022 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), gathering data from patients’ family members at Summa Health in Akron.

Last summer, four undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Honors students, Mia Murphy, Melina Connell, Taylor Monturo and Mary Grace Vavruska, participated in nursing research with Dr. Jo Dowell as part of the Kent State University Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program.
KSU Nursing Student Named ‘Big Sister of the Year’
College of Nursing student Ashlee Frymier, ’09, has been selected as Big Sister of the Year by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Summit, Medina and Stark Counties.
