Kent State Athletics concluded its season of giving yesterday. We are very grateful to our Golden Flash family who supported our athletic programs during this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign. We are working as fast as we can to tally all the results, and we will send an update with the final numbers once they’re available!

Kent State Men’s Basketball will host South Dakota State at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, at the MAC Center. The visiting Jackrabbits pose a tough test, as they have earned votes in the mid-major top 25 poll throughout the season. The Flashes are coming off a close 49-44 defeat on the road against No. 2 Houston, which moved to No. 1 in the AP poll following the contest.
Following Friday night’s home contest, the team will travel to No. 14 Gonzaga on Monday, Dec. 5.
The Kent State Women's Basketball team led by as many as 20 points during last Sunday's Christmas City Classic championship game and defeated a pesky Southern Illinois team 72-66.
Forward Lindsey Thall was named MVP of the tournament, while guard Casey Santoro also made the All-Tournament team.
This Sunday, the team will host St. Bonaventure at 2 p.m., having won their last three games, including a victory over Oklahoma State on the road.
The Flashes football team ended its season with an overtime win last Saturday at Buffalo. True freshman quarterback Tommy Ulatowski stepped in after starter Collin Schlee was injured and led a fierce fourth quarter comeback alongside Marquez Cooper to force overtime. Ulatowski threw his first collegiate touchdown pass to Devontez Walker to win the game 30-27 after Buffalo kicked a field goal on their overtime possession. Cooper carried the ball 30 times for 145 yards and made two touchdowns. He also completed a pass and caught a pass in the game.
Overall, the Flashes end the season with a 5-7 record (4-4 MAC).
Kent State Wrestling will compete in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational once again at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The event will take place over the weekend, Dec. 2-3. The Flashes have been regular participants in the invitational, which is held in high regard by collegiate wrestling fans across the nation. Thirty-three teams including multiple highly rated Power 5 programs, Kent State and three other MAC schools (Ohio, Clarion, Edinboro), will compete over two days.
Tickets can be purchased at the door, and it will be streamed on FloWrestling.
Save the Date: 11th Annual Athletics Scholarship Auction
We are excited to announce the 11th Annual Athletics Scholarship Auction will be Friday, April 21, 2023.
The Golden Flashes Club is also thrilled to share that Varsity “K” Hall of Famer Nick Nemeth, ’03, will be the guest of honor and football alumnus Kent Cleveland, ’12, MA ’13, will be helping to host.
Nemeth graduated as Kent State's career leader in victories and was just the third wrestler in program history to be a four-time NCAA qualifier. He was a three-time MAC champion and four-time MAC finalist. As a senior, he helped the Golden Flashes to a MAC regular season title. Known now by many as Dolph Ziggler, Nemeth has reached superstar status in the WWE.
Now through Dec. 9, Kent State will be collecting clean, gently used or new warm winter clothing for all ages including hats, gloves, scarves and sweaters. Drop off your items in the large boxes labeled with Winter Coat and Clothing Drive signs in the MAC Center main lobby or one of the other dropoff locations. Winter coat and clothing donations will go to the Winter Warm-Up Stations around campus and in the Kent community that provide items free of charge to homeless individuals, families, elderly and veterans in need.
If you’re looking for new Kent State apparel, now’s the perfect time! For a limited time, when you spend $15 at Kent State Sportswear, you will receive a $5 voucher that can be redeemed for admission to either the men’s basketball game vs. Toledo on Jan. 3 or the women’s basketball game vs. Buffalo on Jan. 4.
Go get your Flashes gear - or wrap it up for a holiday gift - and enjoy a chance to see the teams in action, too!
