Nursing Programs Granted Continued CCNE Accreditation for Maximum Term

 

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) granted 10 years accreditation to College of Nursing’s baccalaureate and master’s degree programs, as well as the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program and the post-graduate APRN certificate program, extending to December 31, 2028.

Kent State College of Nursing Designated a Project ECHO® Hub, First of its Kind in Nation

 

Investigators at Kent State University College of Nursing are using video teleconferencing technology, known as Project ECHO®, to reduce healthcare disparities and improve access to high quality care. It is the first ECHO® Hub housed in a college of nursing nationwide.

Lecturer Mary Kutchin Receives 2018 Outstanding Teaching Award

 

As faculty member Mary Kutchin, MSN ‘91, RN, CNS, was preparing her students for an exam on the morning of Oct. 5, 2018, members of the University Teaching Council made a surprise appearance to announce that she had been selected as one of three 2018 Outstanding Teaching Award Recipients at Kent State.

Nursing Student Presented with Congressional Award by Rep. Ryan

 

Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) presented Kent State University nursing major Austin Croft with The Congressional Award Silver Medal on Tue., Nov. 27, 2018. Recipients of The Congressional Award Silver Medal have earned one of the highest honors Congress bestows upon a youth civilian.

Wanting a career that would allow her to be independent and work from anywhere, Erin Shelley, Ed.D., MA, BSN ‘91, RN, was drawn to the nursing profession. These days, however, she practices nursing as “art imitating life” through her role as a Technical Expert on the hit NBC show, Chicago Med.

Siblings Establish Service-Learning Scholarship in Mother’s Memory

 

Tom Jennings, ‘85, is a Peabody and Emmy award winning journalist and documentary filmmaker, but what inspires him are the lessons he learned from his mom, Mary Feran, an anesthesia nurse at Cleveland Clinic.

Jennings and his wife, along with his sister and brother, recently established the Mary Feran Jennings Service-Learning Scholarship, which will fund student community service experiences across the globe including at a refugee camp and at a Native American reservation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 20 percent of children in the United States are obese, presenting serious health risks to children and adolescents and disproportionately affecting disadvantaged and minority children. To better understand and address this alarming trend, Dr. Ya-Fen Wang, Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing, examines cognitive-behavioral self-control skills, stress, physical activity, and overeating in children.

5th Annual DAISY Faculty Award Recipient: Lorene Martin, MSN ‘05, BSN ‘96, RN, CRNP, was honored as this year’s Kent State College of Nursing Daisy Faculty Award recipient.

Publications: 10 faculty publications and four student publications.

Presentations: Nine faculty presentations, two student presentations, and one alumni presentation.

The Kent State University Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the 2019 Alumni Awards.
