Kent State Nursing Researcher Awarded $1.5 Million, Three- Year Grant to Advance Nurse Education within Integrated Care Settings
Research faculty member Jim Tudhope, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC (principal investigator) and his team from Portage Path Behavioral Health were recently awarded $1.5 million dollars over the next three years to advance nurse education within integrated care settings. Their project, Advanced Nursing Education Nurse Practitioner Residency Integration Program, will prepare and increase the number of new behavioral health nurse practitioners in Northeast Ohio. The program will help improve professional development in multiple areas for nurse practitioners.

Prestigious Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation President’s Grant to Expand End-of-Life Simulation for Nursing and Medical Students
Kent State College of Nursing researchers were awarded prestigious Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation $35,000 President's Grant to ensure the competencies of new healthcare providers to facilitate vital family communication at the end of life. Their study will be conducted in collaboration with Northeast Ohio Medical University.
Dr. Jo Dowell, Ph.D., APRN, CNP, PNP, FNP-BC, CFNE, Explores Improving Asthma Symptom Management for Underserved Children Through Community Engagement
Dr. Dowell has devoted her career to improving health-related quality of life for children with asthma with a particular focus on symptom management and health disparities among diverse, underserved populations. To better understand the effects of community environments on health outcomes for children with chronic illness, Dr. Dowell has acquired expertise in developing partnerships and bringing multiple key stakeholders together to collectively improve asthma symptom management for children and their caregivers. Her familiarity with institutions in Northeast Ohio supporting the health of children and families has allowed her to establish strong community ties for conducting innovative research, including schools, community and religious organizations, and medical centers.
Leaving a Legacy for Geauga County Healthcare
Dee Dee Miller loved her Nursing School experience. She was the ultimate caregiver and spent her entire life helping others. After her passing in January 2020, her family is carrying on her legacy.
Giving Tuesday News and Emergency Fund Helps Students Survive and Thrive
From Nov. 9 through Dec. 1, Kent State University will once again participate in Giving Tuesday. The College of Nursing will be featured as we work to raise additional support for our “Race into Finals Emergency Fund.”
So far this year, we have distributed more than $20,000 to College of Nursing students who were facing economic hardships.
